Anciene Republik Battlemoons
The Anciene Republik at its height covered over 2 million sectors and had to police that volume of space. It was during that time that some of the largest warships were ever made, including the enormous "battlemoons" of the latter Republik. More than 3,000 of these mobile monster military constructs were fielded, and the spaceframes for an additional 10,000 units were made and stored in dozens of strategic sites across the Republik. The dispersal of battlemoon skeletal frames stored at these highly classified sites was as a security precaution against wide-spread galactic revolt or possible interstellar invasion (and was a top-secret defense measure). Today, the Republik Navy has a mere 100 battlemoons currently in active service, losing many during the tremendous conflicts that took place as the Republik shrunk from a galaxy-wide organization to a regional power based in the Orion Arm. The typical crew compliment for a Republik battlemoon is 250,000 to 500,000 personnel (carrier-based versions have the largest compliments) and their tonnage ranges from 50-100 million tons each. Battlemoons were designed from the ground-up as system-wide siege engines, able to blockade an entire star system literally by themselves. When placed at the core of larger naval battlegroups, these mobile moons enforce total system dominance, and making entry into a star system picketed by these vessels impossibly dangerous. No one has ever fielded a warship class that could match the Republik's "battlemoons" and each of them took ten years or more to make. While it originally had over two dozen diversified battlemoon designs, the Republik now fields just four different types of these vessels: a large carrier version, a heavy long-range missile platform, a well-rounded version that can engage on close combat with beams or long-range with missiles, and a planetary invasion support platform.
